CDMP Online Study Group Series (Free for members)

Become a Certified Data Management Professional

DAMA Puget Sound is offering a free-for-members, instructor-led CDMP Online Study Group series to prepare for the Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) certification exam. 

To take advantage of this opportunity:

1. Register for the virtualCDMP Study Group, hosted by DAMA Puget Sound, via the dama-ps.org website.  

2. Participate in this CDMP Study Group over the course of 12 weeks.

3. Register for DAMA Day 2025 and attend the pay-if-you-pass exam (see events page for DAMA Day dates and details), 

    OR 

    Register for and attend the regular online exam at your convenience.

What you need to know

CDMP ® is a globally recognized Data Management Certification program run by DAMA International. There are multiple levels of certifications. Details about the levels of CDMP certification can be found at https://cdmp.info/

All advanced certification levels require that candidates first pass the Data Management Fundamentals exam. Exam questions test your knowledge of the content in the Data Management Book of Knowledge Second Ed., Revised (DMBOK2 Revised).   

The Data Management Fundamentals exam has 100 questions, and you will have 90 mins to answer them. It’s an open-book exam.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites, but it’s helpful to have 6 months or more of industry experience, or education in the fields of data governance, and data management and architecture, metadata, as well as data science, and business intelligence. 

Note: Before the start of the first study session, get the Data Management Book of Knowledge, Second Ed., Revised (DM-BOK2 Revised). 

How DAMA-PS can help prepare exam candidates

You can self study, OR join the CDMP Study Group series with DAMA-PS. This series is free for DAMA-PS members.

Take the Data Management Fundamentals exam

You must sign up to take the exam when you register for DAMA Day. Taking the exam at DAMA Day 2025 is free (there may be an administration fee and proctoring fee added). You pay the full exam fee ($300) only if you pass. You’ll have 15 days after passing the exam to pay the full exam fee to keep the certification. If you fail to make payment, you may be required to retake the exam.

The CDMP Study Group, led by CDMP certified individuals, will cover DM-BOK2 Revised, chapter by chapter.

Participate in the study sessions:

• Read the DMBOK2 Revised chapters in advance of the session - Do your homework!

• Be on time!

• Ask questions during the study session

• Participate in the sessions

Total time commitment of 6+ hours per session:

• Prep for session: 2+ hours

• Attend the session: 2 hours 

• Review the material: 2+ hours

• Study materials: 

• • $59.95 - DAMA-DMBOK2 Revised - for DAMA-PS members (if 10 or more orders)

  • A free practice test will be available once registered for the exam.

• Exam Registration:

• • Option 1: Pay only if you pass exam event at DAMA Day:

  • • You register for the exam event as part of DAMA Day 2025 registration

    • $36 - administration and exam proctoring fee ($25+$11)

    • TBD - DAMA Day 2025 registration fee.

    • $300 - only payable if you pass the exam 

    • If you don’t pass on the exam event day, you can retake the exam within three years at a discounted cost of $211. After registering for the exam event, if you can’t attempt the exam for whatever reason, you can still register for a regular online exam (see below).

  • Option 2: Register for the regular online exam at a different time:

  • • If you can’t attend DAMA Day 2025 and the exam event hosted by DAMA PS, you can take a regular online exam at any time for $311 through https://cdmp.info/exams/. You will work directly with DAMA International on this.
