Meet other Seattle business analytics analysts and join a discussion to describe the shape of analytics along 5 dimensions:

• Purpose - What are the reasons for analytics? To diagnose problems, to prescribe solutions, to predict futures? What else?
• People - Who is involved in analytics and in what roles? Data providers, data scientists, business analysts, business decision makers? Who else?
• Function - Which business functions benefit most from analytics? Marketing, risk management, fraud detection? What else?
• Industry - Which industries are leaders in analytics and which are slow to adopt? Healthcare, financial services, retail? What else?
• Techniques - Which analytic techniques make sense in what circumstances? Classification, regression, decision trees? What else?

Dave Wells provides a brief presentation to set the stage and frame the discussion, then facilitates conversation to capture the collective thoughts everyone who attends.

Through this and similar meet ups in other locations we'll develop a business analytics framework that describes the scope, components, and relationships of business analytics as a discipline. Ultimately we'll publish the framework and use it as the foundation to identify many future topics for meet ups and for research and publishing.
